Why you should finish the antibiotic course your doctor prescribed
Feeling better does not always mean the infection has gone. Here is why the full course matters.

Antibiotics treat bacterial infections. They do not work against viral illnesses such as the common cold. Take them only when a doctor prescribes them, and exactly as directed.
Why the full course matters
Your symptoms can ease before all the bacteria have gone. Stopping early or skipping doses can let an infection come back and may help bacteria become resistant, which makes future infections harder to treat.
Good antibiotic habits
- Take each dose on time, as your doctor prescribed.
- Do not save leftover antibiotics or share them with anyone.
- Tell your doctor about allergies and other medicines you take.
- Call your doctor if you notice a rash, swelling or severe stomach upset.
